Rank From Right End
Order is known as sequence. For example left, right, top, bottom, ascending and descending.
Rank: The process of determining the position or place of a person or a thing on the basis of comparison or relative position of other person or thing is called ranking. There are two types of questions based on ranking test which in as follows. Rank is known as position in the given sequence.
Type of Rank: There are two types of Rank :
(1) Base Rank : When rank of object is given from end.
For example- A is 4th from left end.this the case of the rank with respect to the base or Base rank
(2) Reference Rank: When rank of one object with reference to another object is given.
For example - A is 2nd to the right of B. In this case the rank of A given in reference to another object that is B or we can say Reference rank
Rank From Right End: The rank from right end can be calculated if we know the total number of persons and the position of the person from the left end. The formula will be
Formula: - Rank of X from right end = Total number of persons - Rank of X from left end + 1
In order to find the position of person from opposite side, it is necessary that we know the total n umber of persons and the rank of the person from one end.
Illustration: Out of 42 students present in the class, Ram's position is 22nd from the left. Find his position from the right end?
A. 20 B. 21 C. 22 D. 25
Answer: B
Solution: It is given that Ram is at 22nd position from left that means the base rank of Ram is given. We are also given the total number of students that is 42.
Rank of Ram from the left end = 22
Total number of students = 42.
To find rank of X from right end = ?
Formula: - Rank of Ram from right end = Total no.of persons - Rank of Ram from left end + 1
Rank of Ram from right end = 42 - 22 + 1 = 20 + 1 = 21
Hence B is the right answer.
